In the volcanic mountains of Northern Costa Rica, Don Victor and his family have tended six varieties of heirloom cacao for generations — hand-harvested, naturally fermented, sun-dried and stone-ground using ancestral methods that preserve the full integrity and life force of the bean.
We have worked alongside this family since 2020. In 2025 we planted our own cacao farm beside theirs — together rebuilding the biological corridor and practicing regenerative agroforestry that gives more to the land than it takes.
This is not supply chain. This is family.
What is Cacao?
Cacao is chocolate in its purest form. For thousands of years the Mayans and Aztecs have used Cacao for its medicinal and healing benefits. Cacao is an amazing source of magnesium, iron, and antioxidants. It can help reduce stress, anxiety, depression and increase energy, all while promoting feelings of bliss!
Did you know chocolate comes from a bean, similar to a coffee bean?
Chocolate is made from Cacao beans — or rather seeds — from the Theobroma cacao tree. This plant produces large, pod-like fruits, each containing 20–60 beans surrounded by a sticky, sweet-tart white pulp called mucilage. Our Cacao beans are handpicked on a family farm in Upala, Costa Rica where they are then fermented, sundried and stone ground in an artisanal machine. Our cacao is sun dried to preserve its natural nutrients and flavor, resulting in a product that is pure and delicious!
